In an effort to reinvigorate a national discussion and move toward a more sustainable and integrated approach to urban Extension, a group of mid-level administrators working in metropolitan areas across the country began meeting in late 2013. This group is called the National Urban Extension Leaders (NUEL) with an acknowledged purpose to advocate and advance the strategic importance and long term value of urban extension activities by being relevant locally, responsive statewide, and recognized nationally. NUEL’s Steering Committee consists of 17 people with a balanced representation from the Extension Committee on Organization and Policy’s (ECOP) five regions, as well as one representative from ECOP and one representative from the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA). The NUEL hosts biannual networking meetings which are broadcast to our NUEL network.
